Summary of this volume: The DAE Solid State Physics Symposium 2015, the sixtieth symposium in a series that began in the 1950s, was held at Amity University UP, Noida Uttar Pradesh. There was an overwhelming response of about 950 registered participants from all over the country and the local hospitality ensured a pleasant stay for all. The scientific sessions, plenary talk, and invited talks covered diverse topics that are important to concurrent scientific, technological, bio-medical, energy, nuclear, and advanced material research. The 49 invited talks, 24 oral presentations, and over 800 poster presentations covered topics that included (a) phase transitions, (b) soft condensed matter including biological systems, (c) nano-materials, (d) experimental techniques and devices, (e) glasses and amorphous systems, (f) surfaces, interfaces, and thin films, (g) electronic structure and phonons, (h) single crystals, (i) transport properties, (j) semiconductor physics, (k) superconductivity, magnetism, and spintronics, and (l) novel materials. There were 11 thematic seminars of potential interest to the solid state and condensed matter scientific communities, which included topics such as applied materials, thin films/polymers, ion beam processing, accelerator-based solid state physics, topological insulator and nano-magnetics, carbon-based materials, nano and novel materials, photonics and meta materials, physics under extremes and theoretical solid state. In addition, there were two panel discussions on neutron science research and synchrotron science research.

These proceedings will be of interest to: Physicists, materials scientists, and engineers working in optics, optoelectronics, photonics, molecular electronics, device design, and fabrication.
