Summary of this volume: Material sciences and smart structures will respond based upon their surrounding environments. This process involves different environmental conditions such as temperature, light and pressure. Hence, smart structures and material sciences work to adopt mechanical, optical, electromagnetic and thermal properties to predict and control the environment in an effective manner. This structural health monitoring can be used for civilian applications, military applications, mechanical applications, in space and nuclear industries, and in medicine and engineering applications.
